Camellia isn’t a person, but this is Camellia Pure Beauty’s organic beauty blog. Camellia is owned by Emily Headen: blogger, proprietor, shipper, graphic designer, merchandiser, web master, cleaning crew, and every other role that needs filling. (That’s a long way of saying Camellia is a small business and Emily stays busy).
Emily promises blogs will be written in the first person, but reserves the right to bust out the royal “we.” The blog is dedicated to products, issues and legislation impacting “organic” products, skin care and beauty tips, rants and raves about various topics that might stray a bit from time to time, and happenings at Camellia Pure Beauty.
Emily became interested in natural beauty products because of her own sensitivity to artificial fragrance, girly addictions to products she knew weren’t very good for her, and because of her background in the environmental movement. Emily spent several years during Bill Clinton’s second term living in Washington, DC and working at the Environmental Working Group where she wrote about corporate responsibility and tracked the anti-environmental movement. In 2000, Emily moved back to Portland and did freelance research and writing for a number of progressive groups, including Greenpeace USA and The Center for Media and Democracy. She also went to art school and received a BFA in painting in 2005. Camellia Pure Beauty arose from this eclectic background in August of 2007, and Emily has finally found a way to use all of her diverse talents.
Camellia Pure Beauty is located at 48th and NE Fremont in Portland, OR, but we also have an online shop that stocks a good percentage of what is offered at the boutique. We stock the finest natural beauty products Emily can get her hands on, and all are free from parabens, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfates, and artificial fragrances.
